The Best Restaurants In Bondi With A View

Icebergs Dining Room And Bar

1 Notts Avenue, Bondi Beach

Perhaps no restaurant is more closely associated with or representative of Bondi than the one proudly overlooking its waters, sat on the southern end’s cliffside. Opening in 2002, Icebergs Dining Room and Bar is overseen by co-owner and Aussie hospo legend Maurice Terzini and has since become a bucket list spot and easily one of Sydney's best waterfront venues too.

"The Icebergs is about the ocean, the beach, the sky, it’s about Sydney" says Terzini. "We worked hard to respect that, to create a restaurant that takes a backseat to the view, with food and service that can do the same."

It serves up a killer Italian menu that pairs perfectly with one of Sydney’s best views. The high-end, modern, and seasonal menu is offered as two or three courses, featuring plenty of fine dining delights like Iceberg’s signature salt-crusted 150-day grain-fed boneless rib eye, whole grilled rock lobster with herb butter, Koshihikari risotto, and tiramisu for dessert. There’s also vegetarian and vegan-friendly menus too.

  • For special occasions, opt for the whole table tasting menu at $250pp—you won’t regret it.

We couldn’t put this list together without shouting out this beloved Sydney foodie institution. Since 1993, award-winning chef Sean Moran’s Sean’s has boasted a hard-to-beat seasonal fine dining menu that changes each day depending on the best produce available, aided by one of the area’s prime beachside views, across the road from the North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club.

“I put a lot of myself into the space,” says Moran. “It’s not a ‘design’ space. It’s taken years to get those layers and to build that feeling. I love that it’s just an extension of me and sometimes I’m down here in my slippers and in my pyjamas, you know?”

Sean’s currently serves a three-course set menu for $140 per person in its 45-seat restaurant or 12-seat private dining room.

  • The Bondi restaurant’s produce comes either from Moran’s own farm in Bilpin or from other ethical farmers.

From House Made Hospitality (behind Apollonia, Grana, Bar Mammoni), Promenade is a sprawling beachfront restaurant built into the historic Bondi Pavilion. Complete with an ocean-facing main dining room, a private dining room, a sunny open-air Beach Bar, and a small takeaway kiosk, the seafood-scattered menu has been dreamt up to complement the location.

House Made Hospitality director Scott Brown outlines that “the...focus for us was ensuring Promenade Bondi Beach appealed to locals. We want it to be somewhere locals are proud of, they feel comfortable eating at regularly and want to show off to visiting friends and family”.

It leans on global influences with top dishes like sesame brioche bug toast, 200g wagyu rump cap, and campanelle pasta with fermented chilli tomato sugo, stracciatella and kalamata olives. To drink, take a peek at the seasonal cocktail specials to try something new, or go for a zero-alc mocktail.

  • “You’ll pick up influences from coastal regions across the globe", says culinary director Stephen Seckold. "The key element that ties this menu together is that they’re the kind of dishes you want to eat next to a beach."

Any venue fortunate enough to be in sight of Bondi Beach has an immediate leg up on the aesthetic of its dining experience. Being basically on the sand of North Bondi and in perfect view of the crashing waves, North Bondi Fish is always a good option for lunch, dinner or a few waterfront cocktails.

"Our vast coastline means we have access to some of the best seafood in the world, not to mention the fact that with a range of water temperatures, we’re able to enjoy cold-water fish such as salmon, ocean trout and King George whiting, as well as tropical reef fish – think coral trout, red emperor and our famous barramundi. The variety is mind-boggling" says owner, Matt Moran.

As you’d expect, seafood is the name of the game here with a Moran-created menu. From oysters and ceviche to fish tacos and grilled fish burgers, order up and pair your meal with one of NBF’s signature cocktails. For something fresh, try the Dolce Vita Spritz with Limoncello, 42 Below Vodka, mandarin, bergamot and soda.

"If you’re inviting your friends to your balcony and you cook for your friends, that’s how I imagined the concept of Chaco to be."
